Goal
Simple and achievable
Time is a commodity that once spent cannot be retrieved, reversed, made more of, mined, or magically increased. As such one must spend one’s time as one sees fit. How that is defined depends on one’s goals. There are many questions and ways to determine what these goals are. In a work environment, these goals are in many ways determined by forces outside of one’s control.
Goals provide direction and purpose to every individual.
These work goals are usually aligned to one of the following goals:
Increase profits
Decrease expenses
It is that simple. Anything that is not working in a way or form towards these goals is superfluous and should be avoided.
The sound of not-for-profit/government/any non-capitalist driven organisation is deafening as they shout that they are not driven by profits. Agreed, but those organisations are driven by simple, high level, measurable goals. If they are not, there is no goal to that work environment and it is very difficult for any individual to determine their contribution to such an ogranisation.
As such one must ensure that one knows and understands what that goal is at a high level.
What are your company’s goals?
What are your division’s/department’s/branch’s goals?
What are your team’s goals?
What are your goals?
This pyramid of goals builds upon one another. The least amount of goals at the company level to the most amount of goals at an individual level. At all times one must ensure that these goals are aligned and all goals one is working on are working towards the next level’s goals.
